Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival

There's nothing that says spring is here like standing in a field of thousands of tulips. The girls and I adventured out with my in-laws and a few other family members to check out the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn, Oregon. We picked the warmest day in the forecast, driving about an hour away not knowing what to expect. I had no idea it was such a commercialized festival, full of booths, rides and activities aside from the tulips. The fields were pretty rough and muddy, making it hard to push Grandma around in her wheel chair and my kids were in Grandpa-mode meaning they were not listening to me at all. I felt bad having hyped it up to the family, only to have it be a bit chaotic and somewhat difficult.

The tulips on their own were beautiful. I could have strolled through the fields all day admiring the colors and taking pictures of the girls. I loved the way Sophia insisted on smelling every color and how Lucy copied her every move (both the good ones and the less-good). It was hard to get them to hold still but I realize that's what being a child is all about. Even though it was a messy day, we went for the experience and looking back it's the beauty that stands out. That and the giant bag of cotton candy we shared on the way home to keep everyone quiet.
